Ed Goodson is a blunt and unapologetic father who delights in sharing his unfiltered and often outrageous opinions with anyone nearby. His sons, Henry, a down-on-his-luck writer turned unpaid blogger, and Vince, the submissive partner in a real estate duo with his assertive wife Kathleen, are frequent targets of Ed's rants. When Henry struggles to keep up with rent for his attractive roommate and secret crush, Sam, Ed unexpectedly offers him a place in his home. Henry accepts, realizing he’ll be trading one set of challenges for another, with no refuge from his father’s relentless commentary.
