A decade after the tumultuous Bakumatsu period, when citizens rose against the Tokugawa shogunate for freedom, Japan enters the Meiji era. However, true peace remains elusive. Despite a ban on swords, violence continues to plague the streets, leaving war veterans’ orphans in dire circumstances.
